This garden was created for a family with five children: the epitomy of a lifestyle garden.

The new stone fence, pillars and gates set the tone for the architecturally beautiful home, which is traditional in appearance yet modern. Wrapping the home, I introduced a football field, rows of hardy plants, sitting areas, a productive side garden and a welcoming rear garden around the pool, trampoline, basketball court and ping pong table.

Although I worked with the traditional species that the home and its mature Camellias dictated, I nonetheless used a broad brushstroke, planting large numbers of Buxus and Plectranthus in rectangular shapes to create a more modern look. There are flowers, but not planted in the recognised cottage style: more quantity, less species.

The Killara garden will mature into an elegant, stylised formal garden that copes with the demands of an active family.
